About Synkplay

Synkplay is an independent, open-source Syncplay client for Android and iOS phones and tablets, and for Android TV. It keeps video playback in step across everyone in a room. When one person pauses, plays or skips, the same action happens for all other participants. Each person opens the same video from their own file or link, and Synkplay only synchronizes playback. According to the project's homepage, it never sends the video or the screen to anyone. Because it uses the same protocol as the original Syncplay, participants on a computer with the official Syncplay client can join the same room.

Use is subject to some limits. A browser version is in development but cannot join a room yet. Android 8.0 or newer and iOS 15.0 or newer are required. Store builds are reviewed before release, so they can arrive later than GitHub releases. Rooms use the official Syncplay server (syncplay.pl) by default, and a room can also be hosted on the user's own device. Subtitle search through OpenSubtitles is an external service, and sharing file names and sizes is a user setting.

Synkplay FAQ

Does Synkplay send my video to other participants?
The homepage states that Synkplay only keeps playback in step and never sends your video or your screen to anyone. Each person opens the same video from their own file or link.
Which Android download should I choose?
Google Play is the simplest option. The full APK on GitHub is the same app, with mpv, ExoPlayer and KitePlayer, and it runs on every supported CPU. KitePlayer needs a 64-bit device. IzzyOnDroid offers a smaller build with ExoPlayer only, which installs as a separate app.
