Algo
Set up a personal VPN server in the cloud using Algo, an open-source project from Trail of Bits.

About Algo
Algo is an open-source set of Ansible scripts from Trail of Bits for setting up a personal VPN server in the cloud. It deploys WireGuard and IKEv2 IPsec servers using what the project describes as secure defaults, and supports common cloud providers as well as a user's own Ubuntu server. Supported clients include iOS, macOS, Linux, Android and Windows 11, with generated configuration files, QR codes and Apple profiles for setup.
Optional features include a local DNS resolver for ad blocking, limited SSH users for tunneling, minimal logging with automatic log rotation, and configurable privacy enhancements. The project states it does not provide anonymity or censorship avoidance and does not support legacy protocols like L2TP, IKEv1 or RSA. Deployment is run from a local system or Google Cloud Shell and requires a cloud hosting account; Python 3.11+ is installed automatically, and Windows uses WSL because Ansible needs a Unix-like environment.
