About AutoGen
AutoGen is a programming framework for building multi-agent AI applications, in which AI agents can act autonomously or work alongside humans. The repository includes Python packages for creating agents, such as AssistantAgent, and examples for connecting agents to OpenAI models, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and other agents through AgentTool. A separate AutoGen Studio package provides a no-code graphical interface.
AutoGen is now in maintenance mode. It will not receive new features or enhancements and is community managed going forward. The project states that new users should start with Microsoft Agent Framework, and existing users are encouraged to follow the AutoGen to Microsoft Agent Framework migration guide. AutoGen requires Python 3.10 or later. The quickstart examples call the OpenAI API, so they require an OpenAI account and API key.
