About mempalace
MemPalace is an open-source memory system for AI agents. It stores conversation history as verbatim text and retrieves it with semantic search. It does not summarize, extract, or paraphrase the stored content. The index is organized so that people and projects become wings, topics become rooms, and original content is kept in drawers. Searches can be limited to these parts of the structure instead of running against one flat collection. The retrieval layer is pluggable, with ChromaDB as the current default.
The project describes its storage as local by default and says nothing leaves the user's machine unless they opt in. Setup can be guided by a coding agent or done through a command-line interface installed with uv or pipx. Claude Code sessions expire after 30 days unless auto-save hooks are configured. The repository's homepage also warns that MemPalace has no official websites beyond the GitHub repository, the PyPI package, and the documentation at mempalaceofficial.com.
