About exiftool

ExifTool is a command-line application and Perl library for reading, writing and editing meta information in image, audio and video files. It handles EXIF, GPS, IPTC, XMP, maker notes and other metadata formats. The homepage describes packages for Windows, macOS and Unix systems.

It can also process whole directory trees, rename files by metadata such as date, and extract embedded thumbnails and preview images from RAW files. The homepage states that the exiftool.org website was disabled by its hosting provider and is a temporary stop-gap. Documentation, downloads and support are directed to the SourceForge ExifTool page until this is resolved.
