About Fast Stream

FastStream is a browser extension that replaces detected videos on websites with its own player. It pre-buffers video in the background using fragmentation and parallel requests, and provides subtitle appearance settings with OpenSubtitles search and timing adjustment, audio controls and video adjustments including color-blindness settings, remappable keybinds, and support for MP4, HLS, DASH and YouTube sources.

It does not support livestreams or DRM-protected content, and YouTube playback may have issues. Pre-buffering defaults to a 5GB maximum that can be changed in settings, with developer caution about storage use and SSD wear from frequent large pre-buffering.

Key features

  • Replaces detected website videos when extension is toggled on
  • Pre-buffers video in background; 5GB default limit adjustable in settings
  • Plays MP4, HLS (.m3u8), DASH (.mpd), and YouTube sources
  • Searches OpenSubtitles and adjusts subtitle appearance and timing
  • Adjusts audio with equalizer, compressor, mixer, mono mode, volume booster
  • Adjusts video brightness, contrast, hue, and LMS daltonization for color blindness
Best for: People with slow connections or who need adjustable subtitles, audio, and visual settings for supported web videos.
Good for
  • Developer states no telemetry collection and full offline function, except internet-based features like OpenSubtitles search
  • Translated into Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Malay, and Italian
  • Offers 20+ remappable keybinds and accessible tool buttons
Watch out for
  • Does not support livestreams or DRM-protected content
  • YouTube playback may fail, and Chrome Web Store version lacks download support
  • Large pre-buffering uses storage and frequent use may reduce SSD lifespan
