About Features

better-osm-org is a userscript that adds features to the osm.org website for experienced OpenStreetMap users. It runs alongside the standard OSM interface and requires a userscript manager — Violentmonkey (FOSS) or Tampermonkey (proprietary) — and also works in Firefox for Android.

The additions cover object history (tag diffs, older versions), changesets (QuickLook previews, filters, multi-changeset viewing, mass actions and revert via osm-revert), map layers and dark mode, notes, geometry tools such as a ruler and polygon area calculation, and Overpass Turbo helpers. Some features are Firefox-only, and others, such as the drag-and-drop file viewer and OpenHistoricalMap or OpenGeoFiction support, are marked beta.

Key features

  • Tag diff and version display in object history
  • QuickLook for simple changesets and changeset filters
  • Keyboard hotkeys for layers, history, editors, JOSM and OSMCha
  • Geometry ruler, coordinate copying and polygon area calculation
  • Shows photos from Panoramax, Mapillary, iNaturalist and Wikimedia Commons tags
  • Satellite layer and HDYC profile stats (Firefox only)
Best for: Experienced OpenStreetMap contributors who edit or review data on osm.org and want additional review, changeset and layer tools in the browser.
