About Filext

Filext is a web-based reference for file extensions. It describes what a file extension is and which programs or apps are associated with opening, viewing, editing, or converting that file type. Users can search for a specific extension using the search box at the top right of the page, or drag and drop a file onto the site to have its type analyzed and previewed online.

The site states that its file preview recognizes thousands of file types and that its database covers almost every file extension. Uploaded files are sent to the site for analysis, so users should consider this before uploading sensitive material. The homepage does not describe how uploaded files are stored or deleted. Some previews may fail: the viewer has shown a message asking users to disable AdBlock and re-upload the file before it can be viewed.
