About Languagetool
LanguageTool is open-source proofreading software that checks grammar and style in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch and more than 20 other languages. According to its project description, it finds many errors that a simple spell checker cannot detect. The GitHub repository contains the core code along with standalone, command-line, server, HTTP client, office extension, Java API and Wikipedia components.
The core is freely available under the LGPL 2.1 or later. Developers can run their own LanguageTool server, use the project's public server over HTTP, or call the software from Java. Building from source requires Java 17 and Apache Maven, and a complete clone downloads more than 500 MiB and needs more than 1,500 MiB of disk space. Docker files listed in the README are community-contributed, and the scripted installer is run with sudo.
