About Lovely Forks

Lovely Forks is a browser extension for Firefox and Chrome that shows notable forks of GitHub projects. On a project's GitHub page, it adds a subscript under the repository name with a link to the most notable fork, defined as the fork with the most stars and at least one star, if such a fork exists. The author describes the problem it addresses: abandoned projects often keep high search traffic and star counts, which makes active forks harder to find.

When a fork is more recent than the upstream project, the extension shows a flame icon next to it. The extension can also be installed on Opera through the Opera Chrome-extension addon. The project is open source, and the README includes build and testing instructions. Building requires web-ext and jq, and loading an unsigned Firefox build requires the Developer Edition or Unbranded build, or a configuration change. Pricing is not known.
