Luigi
Luigi provides Python tools for building batch job pipelines with dependency and workflow management.

About Luigi
Luigi is an open source Python package for building pipelines of batch jobs, such as long-running Hadoop jobs, database transfers, and machine learning tasks. It resolves dependencies between tasks, manages the workflow, visualizes the dependency graph, handles failures, and integrates with the command line. Dependency graphs are defined in Python code rather than in XML or separate configuration files.
Luigi coordinates other tools rather than replacing them. The source states that it is not a replacement for lower-level data processing tools such as Hive, Pig, or Cascading. Each task in a pipeline can be one of those jobs, a Spark job, a Python snippet, or a database operation.
Key features
- Dependency resolution between batch tasks, defined in Python code
- Built-in task templates for Python MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, and Pig jobs
- File system abstractions for HDFS and local files with atomic operations
- Web interface for searching and filtering tasks
- Visualiser showing the dependency graph and which tasks have completed
- Optional TOML-based configuration support, installed with pip install luigi[toml]
- Dependency graphs are written in Python instead of XML or external data files.
- Atomic file system operations are intended to keep pipelines from leaving partial data after a failure.
- Open source, with the code available in a public repository.
- Luigi is not a replacement for lower-level data processing tools such as Hive, Pig, or Cascading; it stitches tasks together instead.
