About Yunikorn

Apache YuniKorn Core is the scheduling component of the YuniKorn project. It makes placement decisions about which container runs on which node according to built-in scheduling policies, independent of the underlying resource manager.

It can be deployed as a custom scheduler for Kubernetes and is intended for mixed stateless batch workloads and stateful services in large-scale, multi-tenant, cloud-native environments. Its architecture allows different shim layers for other resource managers, including Apache Hadoop YARN.

Key features

  • Makes placement decisions for containers on nodes
  • Deploys as a custom scheduler for Kubernetes
  • Handles mixed batch workloads and stateful services
  • Supports multi-tenant, cloud-native resource sharing
  • Allows adaption to different resource managers via shim layer
  • Uses built-in scheduling policies for allocation decisions
Best for: Teams managing mixed batch and stateful workloads on Kubernetes in multi-tenant environments.
Good for
  • Core implementation is agnostic to the underlying resource manager
  • Open source under Apache-2.0 license
