About Plezy

Plezy is an open-source, cross-platform client for Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, built with Flutter. It browses libraries, collections, playlists, and folders, runs cross-server search (including actors and directors), and plays video with codec support such as HEVC, AV1, VP9, HDR, and Dolby Vision, either direct play or via transcode presets from 240p/320 kbps up to 1080p/20 Mbps.

The client also connects to external catalog services — Plex Discover, Trakt, MyAnimeList, AniList, Simkl, and Seerr — for explore rows, cross-source search, watchlist sync, and media requests. Downloads are listed for macOS, Linux x64 and arm64, and Windows via WinGet, with package-manager installs for Homebrew, Flatpak, Pacman, Nix, and aerynOS. Pricing is not stated in the source.

Key features

  • Cross-server search across connected Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby servers, including actors and directors
  • Codec support including HEVC, AV1, and VP9, with HDR and Dolby Vision
  • Direct play or transcode presets from 240p/320 kbps to 1080p/20 Mbps
  • Full ASS/SSA subtitle styling, plus online subtitle search and download
  • Explore rows and watchlist sync from Plex Discover, Trakt, MyAnimeList, AniList, and Simkl
  • Seerr requests with per-season, 4K, and destination options and inline status
Best for: People running Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby servers who want an open-source client installable across desktop, mobile, and TV platforms.
Good for
  • Open-source repository with a large commit history and documented build/install paths
  • Wide install coverage: DMG, .deb, .rpm, .pkg.tar.zst, Flatpak, portable tar.gz, Homebrew, WinGet, Pacman, Nix, and aerynOS Moss
  • Playback options include multi-version switching, per-title audio/subtitle memory, chapter thumbnails, skip intro/credits, and 0.25x–8x speed
Watch out for
  • Video playback in the Linux Flatpak requires a Wayland session; a pure X11 session shows the interface but cannot create the video plane
  • The Flatpak has no host or home filesystem access, so folders must be added through the desktop file chooser portal and download folders kept writable
  • The Flatpak is not distributed on Flathub; the remote supplies the Freedesktop runtime only, and --device=all exposes more than GPUs and controllers

Plezy FAQ

Is Plezy available on Flathub?
No. The project's Flatpak remote supplies the Freedesktop runtime only, and the Flatpak bundle is installed from a downloaded file.
Does the Flatpak build have access to my files?
It has no host or home filesystem access. App data lives in ~/.var/app/com.edde746.plezy/, host folders are added through the desktop file chooser portal, and download folders should be kept writable.
What does video playback require in the Linux Flatpak?
A Wayland session. A pure X11 session shows the interface but cannot create the video plane.
