About Streamyfin

Streamyfin is an open-source client for connecting to a Jellyfin media server, built with Expo and aimed at Android and iOS use. It plays video through MPV, powered by MPVKit, and covers playback conveniences such as skipping intros and credits, trickplay chapter previews while seeking, and a sessions view showing active streams on the server.

Additional capabilities include offline media downloading, Chromecast casting, Seerr (formerly Jellyseerr) media requests inside the app, and custom auth headers for reaching servers behind an access gateway such as Cloudflare Zero Trust or Pangolin. A companion Jellyfin plugin holds client settings so they can be synchronized across all users, covering options like automatic Seerr login, default languages, download method and home screen layout. Downloading and Chromecast are described as experimental and under active development; downloading converts an HLS stream to a file using FFmpeg on the server in real time, which can take longer. Beta access requires a Member tier or higher on Patreon.

Streamyfin FAQ

How does downloading media work?
It uses FFmpeg to convert an HLS stream into a video file on your device, so any content you can stream can be downloaded. The conversion is handled in real time by Jellyfin on the server, which may take longer but keeps compatibility with files the server can transcode.
What does the Streamyfin Jellyfin plugin do?
It is installed into Jellyfin and holds the client's settings so they can be synchronized across all users, including automatic Seerr login, preferred default languages, download method and search provider, and home screen personalization.
Can Streamyfin connect to a server behind an access gateway?
Yes. Custom auth headers are supported for reaching servers behind an access gateway such as Cloudflare Zero Trust or Pangolin.
