About Qwacky

Qwacky is an open-source client for DuckDuckGo Email Protection that generates and manages @duck.com aliases without requiring the full DuckDuckGo extension. It supports autofill from the right-click menu or keyboard shortcut, conversion of recipients to duck.com addresses, organization with notes, tags, search and filtering, multiple accounts, and sync with backup and restore.

The project states that data is stored locally with no tracking or analytics and uses Manifest V3, while also offering cross-device sync and backup options. Permission handling differs by browser: Firefox requires the context-menu permission at install time, and Chrome may continue to list removed optional permissions as granted.

Key features

  • Generate and manage @duck.com aliases without full DuckDuckGo extension
  • Fill email fields from right-click menu or keyboard shortcut
  • Turn recipients into duck.com addresses to hide real address
  • Organize addresses with notes, tags, search and filtering
  • Manage and switch between multiple duck accounts
  • Cross-device sync with backup and restore options
Best for: People who use DuckDuckGo Email Protection and want a standalone client without the full DuckDuckGo extension.
Good for

Qwacky FAQ

Why would someone use Qwacky instead of the DuckDuckGo extension?
Qwacky provides email protection as a standalone client, while the full DuckDuckGo extension changes the default search engine and limits tracking protection control to per-site settings.
Where does Qwacky store data?
The project says data is stored locally on the device, with optional cross-device sync and backup and restore functions.
What permissions are needed for context-menu autofill?
It uses optional contextMenus, activeTab, clipboardWrite and scripting permissions to detect email fields, generate addresses and copy them to the clipboard.
