About REXPaint

REXPaint is an ASCII art editor from Grid Sage Games, originally built as an in-house tool for traditional roguelike development and later released to other developers and artists free of charge. It is used for ANSI block and line art, roguelike mockups and maps, UI layouts, and other game development artwork.

The editor supports separate editing of characters, foreground colors and background colors, multi-layered images, palette manipulation and image-wide color tweaks, and a true-color RGB/HSV/hex picker. It exports PNG, .ANS, TXT, CSV, XML, XPM, BBCode and C:DDA files, and imports .TXT files. It is Windows-only, though it is noted to run under Wine on Linux and macOS, and updates are described as occurring occasionally.
