About Sloan Digital Sky Survey

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey V (SDSS-V) is a spectroscopic sky survey. It gathers multi-epoch optical and infrared spectra across the entire sky and provides integral-field spectroscopic coverage of the Milky Way and Local Volume galaxies. Its latest public release, Data Release 20 (DR20), contains spectra and data products from the Black Hole Mapper and Milky Way Mapper programs, along with preview tiles from the Local Volume Mapper.

DR20 also includes new Value Added Catalogs, tutorials on working with the DR20 data, and two web applications: LVMvis for Local Volume Mapper data and Zora for Black Hole Mapper and Milky Way Mapper data. Data from earlier SDSS surveys (SDSS-I to SDSS-IV) remains available on the project's completed surveys and SDSS-IV pages. The next release, DR21, is scheduled for 2027. Pricing is not stated.

Key features

  • Multi-epoch optical and infrared spectroscopy covering the entire sky
  • Integral-field spectroscopy of the Milky Way and Local Volume galaxies
