About stegpy

stegpy encodes text strings or files inside image, audio, and video files using least-significant-bit methods, with DCT-coefficient embedding for JPEG hosts and frame-by-frame embedding for video. It supports JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, WebP, WAV, MP4, M4V, MOV, MKV, WebM and AVI hosts, and can encrypt payloads with a password flag; data is unprotected by default. It works as a command-line tool and as a FastAPI web app with a hosted demo. Encoded video is written as MP4/H.264 and video support requires ffmpeg and ffprobe. Video processing is disabled on the hosted demo, which limits file uploads to 20 MB and text messages to 1 MB.

stegpy FAQ

How do I hide and extract a message?
Run stegpy "Hello World!" image.png to hide it, then run stegpy _image.png to extract it.
Is hidden data encrypted?
No, data is encoded without protection by default, but it can be encrypted with the -p flag.
Why can't I use video on the public demo?
Video processing is disabled on the hosted demo because it can be CPU intensive; use the CLI or run the web app locally for video hosts.
