Thumbnail Rating Bar is an open source browser extension for YouTube. It adds a bar to the bottom of each video thumbnail that shows the ratio of likes to dislikes, so viewers can judge a video's rating while browsing previews. The rating data comes from the Return YouTube Dislike API, so the bars depend on that outside service. The API is rate limited by IP address. Why do some thumbnails not show a rating bar?
The Return YouTube Dislike API rate limits requests by IP address. If this happens, the limit usually lasts about 15 seconds. You may need to refresh the page to retry loading the bars for the affected thumbnails.
Can the length of time rating data is stored be changed?
Yes. The cache duration defaults to 10 minutes and can be adjusted in the extension's settings.
What does the exponential scaling option do?
It is an option in the settings that changes how the bar is drawn. Each 10% reduction from a 100% rating halves the width of the likes portion of the bar. If the Return YouTube Dislike extension is also installed, this option also affects the bar it adds to video pages.
