About TridUI

TridUI is a desktop application that provides a graphical interface for TrID, a tool that identifies file types by scanning files against TrID definitions. Users select or drop a file on the Home screen to start a local scan, which is useful for identifying files with unrecognized types. Scan results list the best match at the top, with additional possible matches and confidence scores below.

The application includes a native Go implementation of the TrID identification algorithm. It can download and update the TrID definitions file from within its Settings screen, or the definitions file can be installed manually. Scanning requires this definitions file. The directory lists Linux as the platform, while the project homepage describes builds for Windows, macOS and Linux. A command line interface is described as planned for the next release.

TridUI FAQ

Where do the TrID definitions come from?
The application can download and install the latest definitions from its Settings screen. Users can also download the triddefs.trd file from Mark0.net and place it in the application data directory for their operating system.
Does scanning send files off the computer?
The homepage describes scanning as local processing, with no data leaving the computer. The definitions download and update feature does connect to external sources, so network use is not limited to scanning.
