About twitch_extension_tools

twitch_extension_tools is a desktop test tool described as an alternative to the Twitch Developer Rig. It works as a REST client for Extension APIs and handles JWT creation and App Access Token generation and maintenance.

It is intended for testing rather than managing a live extension, does not simulate Extension views, and requires the Developer Console to enable services such as Config Service or Chat Service. Extension client IDs and secrets are stored locally unencrypted in config.json.

  • Get, set, and require Extension Configuration Segments
  • Send Extension PubSub messages and chat messages

twitch_extension_tools FAQ

Why does extension validation keep failing with authentication failed?
The tool creates JWTs with a 4-second expiration, so if the system clock is significantly out of date it can generate an already expired token. Check that the system clock is accurate.
