youtube-local is a Python-based, browser-accessed client for watching YouTube search, channels, playlists, comments, subtitles and transcripts without using the YouTube API. It supports local playlists, YouTube-independent subscriptions with import, tagging and muting, video or audio downloads, and 144p through 2160p playback.
By default it routes requests through Tor except for video files served from googlevideo.com, with optional Tor routing for video. Tor use adds network latency, and the software requires local download and setup to run.
