About algia-web

algia-web is a proof-of-concept Nostr web client that handles Nostr protocol processing on a server machine running the algia command-line tool. The web browser only renders content received from the server, which reduces computation and network use on mobile devices.

It is intended for temporary use when there is no power supply or when using a restricted mobile data connection, not as a main client. Use requires a server machine with a global IP address and port 8080 accessible from the internet, and it does not offer a rich interface or many client features.

Key features

  • Processes Nostr protocol on server using algia CLI tool
  • Delivers server-rendered content to mobile web browser
  • Runs Python server script with default port 8080
  • Supports port changes by editing algia-serv.py
  • Requires firewall setup for internet accessibility
Best for: People with their own server who need basic Nostr access on mobile with limited battery or data.
Good for
  • Shifts Nostr processing to server to save mobile battery and data use
  • Simple setup using algia, Python, and a single server script
  • Open-source code under MIT license that users can modify
Watch out for
  • Lacks rich UI/UX and many Nostr client features
  • Not designed to be used as a main client
  • Requires a globally accessible machine with open port 8080
