About AutoAI

AutoAI is a repository that turns long videos from YouTube, Twitch, Kick VODs, or local files into short-form clips for Shorts, Reels, and TikTok. It transcribes the audio with faster-whisper, uses a local LLM through Ollama to pick clip-worthy moments, and adjusts clip starts and ends to sentence boundaries. FFmpeg then crops the clips to 9:16 and burns in captions.

Generation runs on the user's machine and does not use cloud APIs. Publishing to YouTube, TikTok, Facebook Reels, or Instagram Reels uses platform APIs, but only when the user clicks Publish. Setup requires FFmpeg, Python 3.11 or later, and Ollama with the mistral model. Node 20 or later is needed only to rebuild the web interface.

Key features

  • Transcribes video audio into timed phrase-level segments using faster-whisper
  • Selects highlight moments with a local Ollama language model
  • Crops clips to 9:16 and burns captions in using FFmpeg
  • Tracks a single subject per frame so the vertical crop follows them
  • Publishes to YouTube, TikTok, Facebook Reels, or Instagram Reels on explicit request
  • Provides a command-line interface for headless runs without the publishing step
Best for: Creators and editors who want to turn long streams or videos into short clips and prefer to keep generation on their own machine.
Good for
  • Generation runs locally, with no cloud APIs used in the pipeline and no sign-up stated
  • Clip starts and ends are adjusted to sentence boundaries to avoid cutting off speech
  • Clips can be finalized by hand, since the tool can open a browser with the file staged
Watch out for
  • Requires separate installs of FFmpeg, Python 3.11 or later, and Ollama with a model
  • Subject tracking applies to single-subject crops only
  • The command-line path does not include the publishing step

AutoAI FAQ

Does the clip generation process need a cloud service?
The pipeline uses no cloud APIs and runs on the user's machine. Publishing uses platform APIs, but only when the user explicitly clicks Publish.
Is there a set number of clips the tool creates?
There is no fixed count. The tool returns as many good moments as the video has. A user-controlled cap sets a maximum, but there is no minimum, so a video with two good moments yields two clips.
Can clips be published from the command-line interface?
No. The CLI supports the same pipeline but not the publishing step.
