About code

This repository provides a prebuilt Docker image for hosting an Alpha node of O_GITS, described as a decentralized digital organism. Running the container starts a node that connects automatically to the public Alpha network over public Nostr relays and serves a local web interface on port 8060. No source code or build step is required; a new node typically wakes from the global swarm within a minute or two.

The image contains a compiled engine and Alpha's observation key (membrane.json). The creator key (master_seed) is not distributed with nodes. Hosts that are publicly reachable can optionally run a built-in relay on port 8061; machines behind NAT remain full nodes without it.

Key features

  • Prebuilt Docker image pulled from ghcr.io, no build step
  • Node web interface served locally on port 8060
  • Automatic connection to the Alpha network via public Nostr relays
  • Editable visualization layer mounted via artist_custom.js
  • Optional built-in relay on port 8061 for publicly reachable hosts
  • Update by pulling the latest image and recreating the container
Best for: People with Docker who want to host an Alpha node for the O_GITS network on their own machine.
Good for
  • Only Docker is needed; the image is prebuilt and pull-based
  • Visualization layer can be extracted, edited and mounted back
  • Publicly reachable hosts can add a built-in relay to grow the relay pool
Watch out for
  • The engine source code is not included; only a compiled .so is shipped
  • The creator key (master_seed) is never distributed with nodes
  • Relay mode requires a public address with TLS in front of port 8061

code FAQ

Do I need source code or a build step to run a node?
No. Pull the prebuilt image and run it, either with docker run or with the provided docker-compose.yml.
Which ports does the node use?
The node interface is served on port 8060. If you enable the optional built-in relay, it speaks plain ws on port 8061.
Can I host a node on a machine behind NAT?
Yes. NAT'd home machines can skip the relay option and still run as full nodes.
