About Composer

Composer is an open-source, browser-based editor for producing word-synchronized TTML lyrics. It follows a four-step flow — import, edit, sync, export: bring in audio (MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, FLAC) or a YouTube URL, paste or import lyrics (.lrc, .srt, .ttml, .txt), tap along with the music to stamp each word, then export a TTML file or save the work as a JSON project file. A Timeline view offers a DAW-style waveform where word blocks can be dragged and resized, with snapping to neighbours and the playhead, syllable splitting, multiple singers, and a separate background-vocal track. Live preview renders the lyrics as they are edited.

The project is a static site with no backend and processes work in the browser; the README states there are no accounts and that audio is not uploaded. The README also contains a section headed "Vocal separation hosting," so some functionality may depend on external hosting that the excerpt does not describe. Output is a restricted subset of TTML 1 (W3C Recommendation, Nov 2018) rather than strict TTML 1: word-span times are absolute and the hours field is omitted when zero, and linked groups plus per-instance metadata use foreign-namespace extensions that downstream tools can ignore.

Key features

  • Timeline editor with draggable word blocks on a waveform
  • Tap-to-sync: press Space in time with the music
  • YouTube URL import pulls audio without manual download
  • Linked groups keep repeated choruses and hooks in sync
  • Multiple agents for singers plus separate background vocal track
  • Syllable splitting, snapping, live preview, and JSON project files
Best for: People new to lyrics syncing who want a guided path to word-timed TTML files, and users who later want a full timeline editor for finer control.
Good for
  • Open source and built around a linear import, edit, sync, export workflow
  • Client-side static site with no backend, so it can be self-hosted and needs no accounts
  • Output targets a standard format, a restricted subset of TTML 1 parsed by TTML 1 tools
Watch out for
  • Output is not strict TTML 1 because timestamps omit the hours field when zero
  • The README references a vocal separation hosting section whose details are not shown

Composer FAQ

Does Composer upload my audio files?
The README states that processing happens in the browser with no uploads and no accounts, and that audio never leaves the machine. Note that the README also includes a section on vocal separation hosting, so any feature tied to that may rely on external services.
Which file formats can I import?
Audio in MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC, or a YouTube URL. Lyrics can be dropped in as .lrc, .srt, .ttml or .txt.
Can I host Composer myself?
Yes. It is a static site with zero backend dependencies; build it with pnpm and serve the dist/ folder with any static file server.
