About dumb

dumb is an open-source alternative front end for reading lyrics from Genius. It replaces Genius's own web frontend with a lightweight interface, the project says, in response to what it describes as heavy scripts and page clutter. It can be run from a prebuilt Docker image or built from source, which requires Go 1.26 or newer. The default port is 5555 and can be changed with the PORT environment variable.

How can I run dumb?
Run the Docker image with: docker run -p 8080:5555 --name dumb ghcr.io/rramiachraf/dumb:latest, or build from source by cloning the repository and running make build, which requires Go 1.26 or newer.
What can I do if requests to Genius fail?
Because Genius servers are behind a Cloudflare reverse proxy, certain IPs cannot send requests. Setting the PROXY variable to a valid URI can partially mitigate this.
Can I change the port it listens on?
Yes. The default port is 5555, and another port can be set with the PORT environment variable.
