About Digital Averroes Research Environment

The Digital Averroes Research Environment (DARE) is a web-based research platform that provides online access to digital editions of the works of 12th-century Andalusian philosopher Averroes, along with images of all related textual witnesses including manuscripts, incunabula, and early prints. It also hosts a bibliographical database documenting research literature on Averroes and Averroism.

The platform includes additional scholarly resources such as a searchable inventory of Averroes’s works, a forum for researchers to discuss Averroes’s thought, and the collaborative Averroes Encyclopaedia, which documents his philosophical, scientific and technical vocabulary. Launched by the Thomas-Institut in 2010 and funded by the DFG, DARE is an ongoing evolving project that has not yet completed full digitization and documentation of all of Averroes’s works.
