About IOOS®

IOOS is the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System, a NOAA-coordinated network of people and technology that gathers observing data on the ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes. It also develops tracking and predictive tools intended to support the economy, the environment, and public safety. The program is organized around regional associations such as AOOS, CARICOOS, CeNCOOS, GCOOS, GLOS, MARACOOS, NANOOS, NERACOOS, PacIOOS, SCCOOS, and SECOORA, with a national office and advisory committee.

The site publishes news, program updates, and topics including ocean acidification, HF radar, underwater gliders, animal telemetry, marine biodiversity observation, and quality assurance/quality control of real-time oceanographic data. It reports system status and directs visitors to ioos.us and the Environmental Sensor Map to check individual observing assets.
