Data Buoy Cooperation Panel
The Data Buoy Cooperation Panel supports ocean observation and climate resilience through a network of data buoys and monitoring services.
About Data Buoy Cooperation Panel
The Data Buoy Cooperation Panel (DBCP) is a global program coordinated by WMO and IOC-UNESCO that manages networks of autonomous ocean buoys. It operates drifting buoys that move with currents, anchored moored buoys for long-term observations, and tsunameters that detect pressure anomalies for tsunami warning systems.
The buoys measure sea surface temperature, salinity, air and sea pressure, ocean currents, humidity, and wave height using international standards and quality control. The data is used in weather forecasts, climate models, and the WMO State of the Climate Report, and supports forecasting and capacity building in Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries.
