About Floccus

Floccus is an open-source browser extension that syncs a browser's real, native bookmarks across browsers and devices. It works with browsers that support Web extensions, such as Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave and Vivaldi; Safari is not yet supported. Sync runs through a service the user connects, including Nextcloud Bookmarks, Linkwarden, KaraKeep, Google Drive, Dropbox, a Git server (GitHub, GitLab, Gitea and similar) or any WebDAV-compatible service.

Users can create multiple sync profiles and set the sync strategy (unidirectional or bidirectional), the sync interval and the synced folder, and can export their configuration. Because synchronization depends on the chosen external service, the privacy of synced data also depends on that provider or self-hosted setup.

Key features

  • Syncs native browser bookmarks directly across browsers and devices
  • Backends include Nextcloud Bookmarks, Linkwarden, KaraKeep, Google Drive, Dropbox, Git servers, WebDAV
  • Works with Web-extension browsers including Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave and Vivaldi
  • Android and iOS apps for accessing bookmarks on phones
  • Multiple sync profiles with configurable direction, interval and synced folder
  • Configuration can be exported
Best for: People who use several supported browsers or devices and want their native bookmarks synchronized through a storage service they choose, including self-hosted options.
Good for
  • Open source, with the repository and issue tracker publicly available
  • Syncs real native browser bookmarks rather than a separate bookmark collection
  • Supports a range of backends, including self-hosted and WebDAV services
Watch out for
  • Safari is not yet supported
  • Most mobile browsers do not support Floccus, so phone access requires the separate Android or iOS app
  • Syncing to Nextcloud can hit MySQL/MariaDB charset issues, such as Error code 500 for emojis, requiring server-side fixes
