About Iron Bar

Ironbar is a customizable GTK4 bar for Wayland compositors, written in Rust. It can be set up as a lightweight bar or as a fuller desktop panel.

It supports per-monitor layouts, CSS theming, popups, and modules, custom widgets, scripts and Lua-based dynamic content. It has first-class support for Sway and Hyprland and partial support for Niri, with hot-reloading for configuration and CSS.

Key features

  • Popups for displaying rich content
  • Modules integrating with native desktop libraries
  • Custom widgets, scripts and dynamic content including Lua
  • Single bar across monitors or unique bars per monitor
  • Multiple config languages with hot-reloading
Best for: Wayland users on Sway or Hyprland who want a configurable GTK4 bar.
Good for

  • Async design intended to keep bar running if a module blocks or crashes
  • Installable from source or through package managers
