About Kaito

KAITO is a Kubernetes operator suite that deploys LLM inference, tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workloads. A Workspace resource takes a GPU instance type and Hugging Face model ID, then the controller estimates GPU memory needs, provisions GPU nodes through Karpenter APIs, and configures vLLM parameters for single-node or multi-node inference.

It also provides InferenceSet for managing workspace replicas and autoscaling from vLLM metrics with a KEDA autoscaler, InferencePool integration with Gateway API Inference Extension, and RAGEngine for LLM endpoints, embedding services, and vector databases. Currently only the vLLM engine is supported, and node provisioning requires a provisioner that supports Karpenter-core APIs.

Key features

  • Deploy LLMs with Workspace CRD using model ID and GPU type
  • Estimate GPU memory needs and calculate required GPU count
  • Provision GPU nodes automatically through Karpenter NodePool APIs
  • Autoscale workspace replicas with InferenceSet and KEDA metrics
  • Manage RAG services covering LLM endpoint, embedding and vector DB
  • Store models on GPU node local NVMe without extra storage
Best for: Teams running LLM inference and RAG workloads on Kubernetes clusters with GPU nodes.
Good for
  • Workspace API requires only GPU type and model ID for deployment
  • Supports any vLLM-supported HuggingFace models
  • Uses GPU node local NVMe for model storage without extra storage
Watch out for
  • Currently only the vLLM inference engine is supported
  • GPU provisioning requires a provisioner supporting Karpenter-core APIs
