About Musikcube

Musikcube is a terminal-based music player, audio engine, metadata indexer, and server written in C++. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, including Raspberry Pi with Raspbian, and includes a streaming audio server that is enabled by default.

Binaries are available from the releases page, with installs via Homebrew on macOS, Chocolatey on Windows, and packages on FreeBSD and OpenBSD, plus an option to compile from source. Remote streaming and control are available through the Musikdroid Android app. The built-in server uses port 7905 for metadata and port 7906 for audio, and should not be considered safe outside a local network because it does not provide SSL or TLS by default.

Musikcube FAQ

How can I install Musikcube?
Binaries are available on the releases page. On macOS use brew install musikcube, on Windows choco install musikcube, on FreeBSD pkg install musikcube, and on OpenBSD pkg_add install musikcube. Instructions to compile from source are also provided.
Can I stream Musikcube audio to a phone?
Yes. The main app runs in the console, and audio can be streamed and remotely controlled using the Musikdroid Android app available in the releases section.
Can I expose the streaming server to the internet?
Out of the box it should not be considered safe outside a local network. The WebSocket service uses a simple password challenge, the HTTP audio server uses Basic authorization, there is no SSL or TLS, and the password is stored in plain text locally. A reverse proxy can provide SSL termination, but caution is still advised.
