About pylyzer

pylyzer is an open-source static code analyzer and language server for Python, written in Rust. It performs type checking by converting Python ASTs to Erg ASTs for the Erg type checker, and can check a single file, multiple files with glob patterns, or an entire package. It can run as a language server with diagnostics, completion and renaming, including a VSCode extension.

The project is in maintenance phase with only bug fixes and no new features. It does not do linting or formatting, cannot check code using reflection such as exec or setattr, has incomplete standard API typing, and conservative checking may report false-positive errors.

pylyzer FAQ

How do I check Python files with pylyzer?
Run pylyzer file.py for one file, list multiple files with glob patterns, run pylyzer with no path to search for an entry point, or use pylyzer --server for language-server mode.
What is the difference between pylyzer and Ruff?
Ruff is a linter, while pylyzer is a type checker and language server; pylyzer does not do linting and formatting, and Ruff does not do type checking.
Does pylyzer handle all Python code?
No. It assumes statically typed code and cannot check reflection such as exec or setattr, its standard API typing is incomplete, and conservative checks may report false positives.
