About Slides
Slides is an open source terminal-based presentation tool, listed in the directory under Productivity > Presentations. It reads slides from a Markdown file and displays them in a terminal, so the presentation can be created and shown without leaving the terminal. If it is given a file name, it watches the file and updates the presentation when the file changes. It can also read slides from standard input.
Slides can execute code blocks on a slide and show the output at the end of that slide. It can also run a command on a code block before the slides are displayed, which requires the file to have execute permission for security reasons. The directory lists macOS as the platform. The repository's installation instructions also cover Arch Linux, Nixpkgs, snapd-enabled Linux distributions, and Go.
Key features
- Presentations written as a Markdown file, with slides separated by horizontal rules
- Live update of the presentation when the source file changes
- Reads slide content from standard input
- Keyboard navigation between slides, including jumps to a numbered slide
- Regular expression search across slides, with optional case-insensitive flag
- Executes a code block on a slide and shows its output at the end of the slide
- Open source, with the source code available in a public GitHub repository
- Slides are plain Markdown files, so they can be edited with any text editor
- Installation instructions are provided for several systems, including macOS, Arch, Nixpkgs, and Go
- Pre-processing a code block requires the Markdown file to have execute permission, which must be set with chmod
- A theme can be a remote JSON file that Slides fetches before presenting, so that theme requires a network connection
