About taskbook

taskbook is an open-source command-line tool for managing tasks, notes, and boards from a terminal. Users create, check off, prioritize, star, move, and search items with short commands, and the board view groups items by board. A timeline view orders items by creation date.

Items are stored in a JSON file, with writes made atomically to reduce corruption. The source states that data is never shared with anyone or anything. Deleted items are archived and can be restored. The default storage location is ~/.taskbook/storage, and it can be changed with the taskbookDirectory setting or overridden at runtime. Installation is available through npm, Yarn, or Snap. When installed as a Snap, storage and configuration files are saved under $SNAP_USER_DATA instead of the home directory.
