About Warlock-Studio

Warlock Studio is an open-source suite for Windows that upscales, restores, denoises, and interpolates frames in videos and images. It is based on the Djdefrag tools QualityScaler and FluidFrames. The suite runs AI models including Real-ESRGAN, BSRGAN, RealESRNet, RealESR_Animex4, IRCNN, GFPGAN, and RIFE.

It can chain several processing steps so that each step's output becomes the next step's input. Hardware acceleration prefers CUDA, then DirectML, then CPU. The installer includes DirectML by default. Frame interpolation through RIFE applies to video sources, and the chain skips that step for images. The source lists minimum requirements of Windows 10 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, and 4 GB VRAM. It recommends 16 GB RAM for 4K and high-FPS video.

Key features

  • AI upscaling and restoration using several Real-ESRGAN and related models
  • Face restoration with GFPGAN for blurry or low-resolution faces
  • Frame interpolation with RIFE at 2×, 4×, or 8× for smoother or slow-motion video
  • Process chaining that runs multiple steps in sequence for each file
  • Batch processing of multiple media files at the same time
  • Hardware acceleration that prefers CUDA, falls back to DirectML, then CPU
Best for: Windows users who want to upscale, restore, denoise, or interpolate videos and images in one open-source tool.
Good for
  • Combines upscaling, face restoration, denoising, and frame interpolation in one tool
  • Released under the MIT license and publicly available as a GitHub repository
  • Supports batch processing and multi-step workflows for each file
Watch out for
  • Listed only for Windows
  • Minimum requirements include 8 GB RAM and 4 GB VRAM, and 16 GB RAM is recommended for 4K and high-FPS video

Warlock-Studio FAQ

What hardware does Warlock Studio use for acceleration?
It prefers CUDA when available, falls back to DirectML, and finally uses the CPU. The source says keeping GPU drivers updated helps processing speed on NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel hardware.
What happens to RIFE interpolation when a chain includes an image?
The RIFE step is skipped for images in a processing chain. RIFE interpolation runs only on video sources.
