About Wtf

WTF (also known as wtfutil) is a personal information dashboard that runs in a terminal. It shows at-a-glance access to stats and data that users need only occasionally. Its content is organized into modules, which are added and configured by entering their settings in a config.yml file. The documentation for each module explains how to configure it. Modules are named for services such as GitHub, Google Calendar, Trello, Transmission, and Have I Been Pwned.

WTF is free and open-source. It is distributed as a stand-alone binary and can be installed through Homebrew, MacPorts, go install, Docker, the Arch User Repository, or built from source. The project is informally maintained by a small group of volunteers, and the source states there are no guarantees that reported bugs will be fixed or features added. The project is also being renamed to Tessera and moved to a new GitHub organization as it prepares for v1.0.

Key features

  • Terminal-based dashboard showing selected stats and data at a glance
  • Modules that each provide one dashboard section, configured in config.yml
  • Module examples include GitHub, Google Calendar, Trello, and Transmission
  • Stand-alone binary that can be copied to a local executables folder
  • Installation options include Homebrew, MacPorts, go install, and Docker
  • Per-module configuration documentation describing each module's settings
Best for: Developers and other technical users who want a terminal dashboard that collects selected stats and data in one place.

Wtf FAQ

How are modules added to the dashboard?
Modules are added and configured by including their configuration values in the config.yml file. The documentation for each module describes how to configure it.
Will reported bugs or requested features be added?
The source states there are absolutely no guarantees that bugs will be fixed or features added, even if an issue is opened.
Why might the Homebrew version be older than the latest release?
Recipe updates take time to get accepted into homebrew-core. Users who always want the newest releases can tap the linodians/tap repository instead.
