About YouTube Hide Watched

YouTube Hide Watched is a userscript that adds "Watched Videos" and "Shorts" buttons to the top of YouTube pages, to the right of the search box. Each button cycles through normal, dimmed, and hidden display, and the Watched Videos setting is kept separately for the Subscriptions page, channel pages, Trending page, recommendations sidebar, playlist pages, and elsewhere.

It requires a userscript manager such as TamperMonkey, GreaseMonkey, or UserScripts, with installation from Greasy Fork. The Shorts control applies to all Shorts because YouTube does not track which Shorts have been watched.

YouTube Hide Watched FAQ

How do I install the script?
Install the TamperMonkey, GreaseMonkey, or UserScripts extension, install the script from Greasy Fork, then visit or refresh YouTube.
How do the display buttons work?
Pressing the Watched Videos or Shorts button cycles through showing normally, then dimmed, then entirely hidden.
Can it hide only watched Shorts?
No. YouTube does not keep track of which Shorts you have watched, so the Shorts button dims or hides all Shorts.
