yt-local
yt-local provides a local browser interface for browsing and playing YouTube videos.
About yt-local
yt-local is a self-hosted, browser-based client for watching YouTube. It is written in Python and serves a lightweight HTML interface that does not require JavaScript. Users run the server on their own machine, with Windows, Linux, macOS, or Docker setups described in the project's instructions. Requests can be routed through Tor, which the settings allow to be applied to page requests only or to video as well. The project states that the tool needs no API keys and shows no ads, but it does not guarantee anonymity.
Users need to install and run the server, and Tor routing requires a separate Tor Browser or standalone Tor installation. YouTube links must be prefixed with the local server address to load through the proxy, and embeds on other websites need an extra redirector setting. File downloads are disabled by default.
