About Adguard Sdnsfilter
AdGuard SDNS Filter is a DNS filter list, formerly called AdGuard Simplified Domain names filter. It combines several existing filters, including the AdGuard Base filter, the Tracking Protection filter, the Mobile Ads filter, EasyList, and EasyPrivacy. The lists are simplified to work better with DNS-level ad blocking. The filter is the default for AdGuard Home and for the public AdGuard DNS servers. It can also be built manually from the repository.
The filter requires a DNS setup that supports basic ad blocking rule syntax. The source states that extracting only the hosts file does not make much sense. DNS-level blocking is described as a crude method. A blocked site may appear to be malfunctioning, and blocking is less effective when a user opens a blocked domain directly. For domains that open as popups, the filter redirects to a blocked page that explains the reason for blocking. The source notes that redirecting to a different IP address is not the ideal approach.
