About Speed Test

OpenSpeedTest is an open-source HTML5 tool for estimating network download and upload performance. It is written in vanilla JavaScript using built-in Web APIs such as XMLHttpRequest, HTML, CSS, JS and SVG, with no third-party frameworks, and runs in browsers IE10 or newer without plugins.

It can be self-hosted on a static web server such as Nginx, Apache, IIS or Express. Self-hosting requires specific server settings, including support for GET, POST, HEAD and OPTIONS, 35 MB or larger post-body size, and timeouts over 60 seconds.

Key features

  • Self-host using static files on Nginx, Apache, IIS or Express
  • Run continuous stress test with Stress URL parameter
  • Auto-start test on load with Run URL parameter
  • Select lowest-latency server from configured server list
  • Save test results to database via configured endpoint
Best for: People who need a self-hostable, browser-based network performance test.
