About Bfxr2

Bfxr2 is a JavaScript rewrite of the Flash tool Bfxr for making game sound effects. It is in beta and includes a footstep generator, Transfxr for moving sounds between states, Chattr for character speech, and six additional tabs for impacts, machinery, weather loops, musical cues, goo sounds, and layered events.

Chattr converts typed English up to 160 characters into voiced lines and exports WAV audio. It does not support other languages, uses approximate rules for unfamiliar names, and limits number expansion to 96 words, 512 phonemes and 60 seconds.

Key features

  • Footstep generator ported from Pure Data to JavaScript
  • Transfxr morphs sound between two states with independent curves
  • Chattr generates character speech from typed English and exports WAV
  • Randomize or Mutate sounds while locking selected controls
  • Weathr creates seamless rain, wind, fire, water and electrical loops
  • Stackr layers copies of sounds from other tabs
Best for: Game makers who need generated sound effects and character speech for projects.
Good for
  • Open source JavaScript rewrite of Bfxr
  • Chattr runs locally and exports WAV audio
  • Includes separate generators for impacts, motors, weather, cues, goo and layers
Watch out for
  • Marked as beta with additional changes expected

  • Chattr synthesis is deliberately artificial and can lose clarity at extreme settings
