About Live Draw

Live Draw is an open source tool for Windows that lets a presenter draw or mark over the screen in real time. The developer built it because common annotation tools take a screenshot and draw on that image, which makes it hard to annotate dynamic content such as videos.

The drawing layer has a transparent background, so ink can be added while a video or other window is playing. Users can change colors, brush size, and pen pressure (with a pen that supports it), undo and redo strokes, and save and load ink to a binary file. The source lists export as image files and edge docking as planned work, not current features.

Key features

  • Transparent background for drawing over videos and other windows
  • Keyboard shortcuts for undo, redo, eraser, brush size, and line mode
  • Ink pressure support when using a pen with pen pressure
  • Automatic ink smoothing and a mini mode
  • Draggable palette with color selection by click
  • Save and load ink to a binary file, including colors
Best for: Windows presenters who need to annotate live or moving content, such as videos, without capturing a screenshot first.
