Open Power System Data
Open Power System Data provides a free platform for electricity system researchers, with documented and processed data for modeling.

About Open Power System Data
Open Power System Data is a free-of-charge data platform for electricity system researchers. It collects, checks, processes, documents, and publishes publicly available power system data that is inconvenient to use, aiming to help modelers avoid redundant data preparation and improve data quality and documentation.
The platform covers installed generation capacity by country and technology, individual conventional and renewable power plants, and time series such as electricity consumption, spot prices, and wind and solar generation, including measured data and values derived from weather models. Data are published primarily as CSV files with JSON metadata, plus Excel and SQLite files, and processing scripts are open source under MIT on GitHub. Some data may be subject to copyright because not all data owners allow publication under a Creative Commons Attribution license, and the project is aimed primarily at energy professionals rather than the general public or real-time monitoring.
Key features
- Installed generation capacity by country and technology
- Individual conventional and renewable power plant records
- Time series for electricity consumption, spot prices, and wind/solar generation
- Measured generation data and weather-model-derived values
- CSV data, JSON metadata, plus Excel and SQLite files
- Version-controlled scripts and data with stable URLs
- Free-of-charge platform intended to reduce redundant data collection for researchers.
- Aims to provide clearly structured, documented, internally consistent, and accessible data.
- Processing scripts are open source under MIT, and data/scripts are version-controlled for reproducibility.
- Some published data may be subject to copyright; not all data owners allow Creative Commons Attribution licensing.
- Not primarily intended for journalists, the general public, or electricity traders.
- Focuses on long historical time series rather than high-frequency real-time updates, and provides CSV files rather than visualizations.
