About photos

Nextcloud Photos is an open source photo and video gallery application built for the Nextcloud platform. It is included by default in Nextcloud version 18 and higher, and can be enabled through the Nextcloud Apps management interface. The app provides core tools for organizing, viewing, and sharing personal media stored in a user's self-hosted Nextcloud instance. Nextcloud Photos offers a timeline view of stored photos and videos, support for favoriting and tagging media, custom album creation, slideshow playback, and straightforward sharing options. Optional add-ons including Recognize for AI-powered face and object recognition, a preview generator for pre-rendered thumbnails, and Imaginary for faster preview processing can extend its functionality. Dedicated Android and iOS mobile apps are available for viewing photos and auto-uploading them to a Nextcloud instance. The app requires the separate Nextcloud Viewer app to be installed and enabled to operate.
