About Chai Nner

chaiNNer is a node-based image processing application for building custom processing workflows. It started as a tool for AI upscaling and now also handles other image processing tasks through connected nodes in a visual editor.

You can add nodes from a selection panel by dragging and dropping, then connect color-coded handles to define a pipeline. You can run AI upscaling after installing a framework such as PyTorch, NCNN, ONNX, or TensorRT from the Dependency Manager. You can also batch process a folder of images with the Load Images node and process video with the Load Video node. Installation is done from the GitHub releases page, and the app downloads an isolated Python build on startup.

chaiNNer runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It suits users who prefer visual workflow building for image tasks, and contributors familiar with TypeScript, React, or Python who want to work on an open source project.

Key features

  • Node-based editor for chaining image processing tasks
  • AI upscaling with PyTorch, NCNN, ONNX, TensorRT
  • Batch image processing with Load Images node
  • Video processing with Load Video node
  • Integrated Python with Dependency Manager for setup
  • Runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux
Best for: People who want to build custom image and upscaling workflows with a visual node editor.
Good for
  • Open source project under active development
  • Includes integrated Python so system Python is not required
  • Cross-platform support for Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Visual editor shows only compatible node connections
Watch out for
  • Can seem intimidating due to many options
  • Upscaling requires installing a neural network framework first
