About Curtail
Curtail is a free, open-source image compressor for Linux, developed and distributed through GitHub under the name Huluti/Curtail. It was previously called ImCompressor. The application compresses PNG, JPEG, WebP and SVG files, and is described as inspired by Trimage and Image-Optimizer.
It offers both lossless and lossy compression modes, with an option to keep or remove image metadata. The app is built with GTK 4, Libadwaita and Python 3, and relies on other open-source projects such as Oxipng, pngquant, Jpegoptim, libwebp and Scour to do the compression work.
Curtail is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3. It ships as a Flatpak package, which the project recommends, and is also available through a Snap package, an Ubuntu PPA for Ubuntu 18.04 and derivatives, and a Fedora copr repository for Fedora 36 and later. Users can alternatively build it from source with meson and ninja. Translations are handled on the GNOME translation platform, Damned Lies.
