About Gsmartcontrol

GSmartControl is a graphical user interface for smartctl, part of the smartmontools package. It displays SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data from hard disk drives and solid-state drives, letting users inspect a drive's health and run tests on it. It is free software licensed under GPLv3 and runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, FreeBSD and other BSD-style systems.

Key features

  • Automatically reports and highlights SMART anomalies
  • Enable or disable SMART on a drive
  • Configure global and per-drive smartctl options
  • Perform SMART self-tests
  • Display drive identity, capabilities, attributes and device statistics
  • Read saved smartctl output as a read-only virtual device
Best for: Users who want a graphical way to inspect SMART health data and run self-tests on SATA, PATA or NVMe drives from a desktop operating system.
Good for
  • Open source under GPLv3 and free to use
  • Runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, FreeBSD and other BSD-style systems
  • Can interpret a previously saved smartctl output file as a read-only virtual device
Watch out for
  • Support for drives behind USB bridges and RAID controllers covers only some devices
  • Distributed without warranty, including merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
  • A separate phishing site impersonates the project, so downloads should come only from the official website or GitHub repository
